- 12 game regular season - 4 games vs other conference; 3 vs other division in conference and one game each against division rivals (home & away rotated each season)
- Top 4 teams in each division advance to the four-round Best-of-5 playoffs
- Tie-breaker is goal differential; 2nd tiebreaker is head-to-head; 3rd tiebreaker strength of schedule (calculated at end of season only if necessary)
- OT for the regular season is set to 0:01 so that games can end in ties
